  1. What a great topic for research. A very thought out plan and good presentation of it. I will be very interested in the results. We have so few students who participate in activities other than sports...compared to the number of students we have. Then also, in high school there are a great number of students with after school jobs. This keeps them from the after school activities. I'll be reading.

    I love your AR topic! This is actually in my Internship Plan from 5311. I'd love to stay updated with your research and outcome, if possible. I'm a dance director and asst. with cheer at a HS here in San Antonio. Actually think we have mutual friends from TxState. (RANDOM)Anyway, I truly believe that students who are involved in extra curricular activities benefit in more ways than one. Good Luck!

  3. Katie, great topic! Your plan looks good! Have you thought about surveying or interviewing some students who are not in any activities to find out why? As Pam mentioned, it might be after school jobs or transportation issues or any number of things. It might add another dimension to your data. I'd like to know the results!

  7. Katie, great topic! I am always amazed every year how many football and basketball players seem to put forth the effort to pass in the fall and then completely drop the effort in the spring and end up failing the class. One suggestion I might have for you is to take out the top and bottom 30% of your data group when analyzing this. With the top GPA students it really probably doesn't matter if they are involved with activities or not for them to get good grades. The bottom 30% are almost all likely to not be participating in an activity. It is the middle of the group that will be the most interesting. That is where you find the student athletes, and the students whose grades are affected by the activities they do. Good luck!

    1. That is an interesting angle that I did not think of. The only problem with that is that there are only 400 students in our school. I don't feel like I will have a big enough sample if I take out 60%. You are very correct with the top %. It wouldn't matter either way; however, I do have a couple of students who are at the very bottom that I think would benefit from being in some extracurricular activity. This will be a great topic for me to bring up with my Principal. Thanks!
